Que Audio Q Mini Overview
The Q Mini Shotgun PRO Microphone with Windscreen from Que Audio is a new and improved version of the company's Mini Shotgun Microphone. Designed for use with DSLR cameras, the Q Mini Shotgun Pro ups the ante with a new condenser capsule, new electronics, and a wider brass barrel.
Also new is the ability to switch between three different gain stages: 0 dB, +10 dB, and +20 dB. This adjustability lets users customize the gain response to fit the specs of their camera, thus maximizing the signal-to-noise ratio. Equipped with Que Audio's modular Compact Connection System, the Q Mini Shotgun PRO allows users to choose from a variety of screw-on connectors including 1/8" (3.5mm), balanced XLR, and adapters for numerous wireless transmitters from companies like Shure, Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Sony, AKG, EV, Lectrosonics, and more.
- New condenser capsule for high output/low noise
- Switchable gain stages at 0 dB, +10 dB, and +20 dB for maximizing audio results with different cameras
- Wider/Longer solid brass barrel for increased performance capabilities
- Hypercardioid polar pattern for excellent on/off axis rejection
- High SPL Capabilities
- Travel friendly
- Low-Profile Design
- Que Compact Connection System (QCCS) for solid twist on cable and connector options, convenience, and expandability
- Optional adapters allowing +48V, wireless, and other connection options
Que Audio QMSG-PRO Mini Shot
Que Audio's Q Mini Shotgun PRO's condenser capsule and wider brass barrel, combined with the electronics circuit, allow for 3 stages of selectable gain at 0 dB, +10 dB, and +20 dB. On a 5d MKII, you'd select the +20 setting on the Q Mini Shotgun Pro, and then on the 5d MKII on the sound recording/manual page, throttle back the input level all the way down, then set at 1 click above off. This maximizes the signal-to-noise of the 5d MKII and delivers professional results. On a 7D DSLR, the +10 setting works best for minimal distortion. On a Nikon D800, select +20 on the MSG-PRO and a setting of 5 on the D800 manul input level control as a starting point. On a Panasonic GH2, selecting the 0 dB setting on the Q Mini Shotgun PRO, and either of the two lowest (least gain) settings on the camera, depending on the source material, will give you the best results. NOTE: The mount shown above does NOT come with purchase.
